Tyrell Jamison Named As LeMoyne-Owen College Head Men’s Volleyball Coach

The LeMoyne-Owen College Magicians have hired Tyrell Jamison as the school's first men's volleyball head coach in the history of the college.

The program will begin it's inaugural season in the spring  of 2025 after the school announced the arrival of the sport in 2024. "This is a very exciting time in our program and we are glad to welcome coach Jamison to our family", said LeMoyne-Owen College Athletic Director William Anderson

Jamison was born in South Carolina and will be bringing his expertise to Memphis. After this latest hire, he is now the youngest head coach in LOC athletics, at just 28 years of age. Jamison began playing volleyball around the age of 13 and was a part of the inaugural boys program with SC Midlands Volleyball Club. He's a graduate of Claflin University where he graduated with honors and obtained his BS in Biology. He also has his MS in Microbiology & Immunology from the University of Louisville.

Tyrell has spent the last five years coaching at the club, high school, and collegiate level and is now seeing his dreams come true after being selected to lead the Magicians Men's volleyball team as the school first head coach. He was a 2021 recipient of the AVCA Diversity Coaches Award which led him to become the assistant women's volleyball coach at Spalding University where he primarily trained defensive specialists and pin hitters. During his time with Spalding, he had three players record over 200 digs in a single season and one player record over 300 kills.

"I am thrilled to be joining the Magician family as its first Men's Volleyball Head Coach! Thank you to AD Anderson and the entire hiring committee for believing in my vision for not only what this program can be, but also for what the LeMoyne-Owen College and the entire Memphis community deserves. I'm super excited and ready to get to work!", said Jamison.
