The LeMoyne-Owen College men's baseball team were defeated in back to back to games losing 3-13 and 2-13 at USA Stadium. The Magicians will head into this off-season on a fifteen game losing streak with plenty of room for improvement. This first order of business this off-season will be finding a new head coach. Twenty games into the season former head coach
Patrick Newman resigned from the team to personal reasons. Assistant head coach
Johnny Rudd has been named interim head coach for the time being.
The Magicians finished the season 5-31 and lost 31 of 34 games after opening the season with back to back wins at Lane College. The Magicians were extremely inexperienced this season and only had two seniors who played in more than one game. Seniors
DeAnthony Baker and
George Diaz combined for over 140 at bats for the Magicians and both played in nearly every game. The two seniors ranked top 5 on the team in home runs, at bats, RBI and made a lot of big plays for the team. "Those two young man wont be easy to replace" said interim head coach
Johnny Rudd. Rudd is hoping that this time next season the team has built its culture and chemistry and are on the other end of some of this seasons losses.
The Magicians head into the off-season with a bunch of question marks and lots of areas of concern. The team finished in the bottom half of the conference and failed to make the SIAC tournament. There has been no time table set for when the Magicians will name a new head coach.
