The LeMoyne-Owen baseball team faced a tough conference road test this past weekend, traveling to Savannah, Georgia to take on Savannah State University. The Magicians dropped all three games by scores of 5 to 2, 8 to 6, and 7 to 4, but the series showed a team that continues to compete and produce offensively.
In game one, LeMoyne-Owen collected seven hits but fell 5 to 2. The Magicians scored both runs in the third inning, with contributions from Onterio Seaille, Ryan Meglis, Cedric Poellnitz II, Narrada Smith, and Seth Terrell. Poellnitz II stood out by going 2 for 3 with a double and reaching base three times. Despite the effort, the Magicians left nine runners on base and could not capitalize on key opportunities. The pitching staff allowed five runs on seven hits and issued six walks, which proved costly.
Game two featured one of the best offensive performances of the series, but LeMoyne-Owen came up short in an 8 to 6 loss. The Magicians recorded 11 hits and scored in four innings. Sincere Lozano went 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI, while Ryan Meglis added two hits, including a double. Narrada Smith led the way with a 3 for 4 performance, scoring twice and driving in two runs. The Magicians built early momentum but three errors allowed Savannah State to extend innings and take control late.
In the series finale, LeMoyne-Owen fell 7 to 4 but continued to show offensive consistency. The Magicians finished with eight hits and five walks. Lozano went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and a stolen base, while Jonathan Coleman provided a spark off the bench, going 2 for 2 with an RBI. Smith added a double and reached base multiple times, and Onterio Seaille contributed a double. Despite multiple scoring chances, five defensive errors once again proved costly.
The pitching staff showed improvement throughout the series. In game one, the Magicians limited Savannah State to seven hits, keeping the game within reach. In game two, the staff recorded key outs to keep the game competitive despite allowing eight runs. The strongest showing came in game three, where LeMoyne-Owen did not issue a single walk and forced Savannah State to earn its runs through contact.
Across the series, several Magicians stood out. Narrada Smith led the team with five hits, including two doubles, while contributing key RBIs. Sincere Lozano added four hits, three runs scored, and consistent production at the top of the lineup. Ryan Meglis finished with three hits, while Cedric Poellnitz II added three hits and reached base at a high rate.
LeMoyne-Owen will return home for its final conference series of the season on April 24 and 25 against Edward Waters University. Games one and two will be played on April 24 at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., with game three set for April 25 at 12:00 p.m., which will also serve as Senior Day. With the season nearing its end, the Magicians will look to turn their competitive play into results and finish strong.
