Baker Named HBCU-All Star

For the second time this year a LeMoyne-Owen College student athlete has been named an HBCU-All Star. First it was 6'9 Forward Jaquan Lawrence who was a senior on the men's basketball team, now it's senior outfielder DeAnthony Baker of men's baseball.

DeAnthony played a major role for the Magicians this season and was by far their most experienced player. Baker came to LeMoyne-Owen five years ago after finishing up his high  school play in Atlanta,Georgia."Ever since he stepped on campus he has worked hard on an off the court, DeAnthony has become a leader around here", said Magicians athletic director William Anderson.

This season Baker made his presence felt and was one of the teams most consistent players. Statistically, the senior outfielder finished in the teams top five in a variety of categories. The senior had a .326 batting percentage, 28 hits and was top 5 on the team in RBI, home-runs, and on base percentage.  Baker also led the team in total catches and was arguably the teams best fielder.

The 2022 Minority Baseball Prospects HBCU All-Star Game will be held June 3rd in Atalanta, GA. The game will be played at Truist Park, home of the MLB World Series champion, Atlanta Braves. The game being played in Atlanta makes things a little more sweet for Baker, who was birthed in Atlanta, Georgia.

May has been a great month for the senior who just recently earned his bachelors degree in business and finance . "I'm just grateful for the opportunity that I have been given, I definitely won't take any of this for granted", said Baker.  The first pitch of the MBP HBCU Star-Game will be thrown at 7:30pm at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia.
