The Lady Magicians' volleyball team kicked homecoming weekend with the first game of the day this past Saturday as they hosted conference foe Rust College. The Lady Magicians were firing on all cylinders and came out with a victory in what was not only a homecoming game, but what was also senior night for
Zaria Brazier,
Jalynn Woodland,
Adrianna Shaw,
Kailyn Downs,
Tykeria Grissom, and
Tamar Anderson.
This was the first weekend in almost two years that the college had homecoming festivities, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Lady Magicians competed in their sixth game in a ten-day period which started with their October 20th win at home against Tougaloo College. This season has been somewhat of a struggle for the team, who seems to be playing its best volleyball down the stretch. Since starting the season 2-14 the team made strides both offensively and defensively and have won six of their last twelve matches. "We are feeling really good about ourselves heading into tournament play. Anytime you have as many as freshman as we do, it takes a little bit of time for you to develop the team chemistry you need to be successful," said Head Coach
Reginald Morris. "We feel like we are a team to be reckoned with coming down the stretch."
The team came together in what was a total team effort this Saturday as the defeated Rust College in 4 sets and seemed to be in control of the match right from the beginning. Coach Morris and the Lady Magicians will travel to Nashville Monday, November 1st as they finish up their regular season in a game against Fisk University.
SIAC tournament play will begin November 15th in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
