In a thrilling conference match inside the HPER Gym Complex, the Lady Magicians showcased poise, grit, and promise in a narrow 71–69 win against Albany State.
From the opening tip, Albany State brought energy and execution—jumping out to a commanding 24–11 first-quarter lead, their largest of the evening. The short handed Lady Magicians who were playing with out pre-season all SIAC guard
Marley Freeman, would answer back with a 25-15 run of their own. The Lady Magicians would trail 36-33 at half time.
In the second half the two teams traded baskets right up until the final buzzer. Senior guard
Keria McGhee poured in 25 points for the Lady Magicians including four three point bombs. Also in double figures for the Lady Magicians were senior forwards
Janara Williams (14) and
Antieya Brown (12). The front court pair combined for 26 points and 17 rebounds. Albany State finished the game with more rebounds, three point field goals made, and forced the Lady Magicians into 19 turnovers but failed to make as many game winning plays. This victory marks the first of the season for the Lady Magicians and also the first win of the Kimberly Anderson era.
