Magicians Clinch No. 3 Seed with Gritty Senior Night Victory Over Fort Valley State

LeMoyne-Owen College delivered a poised and determined performance on Senior Night, defeating Fort Valley State University 62 to 57 to secure a pivotal conference victory. With the win, coupled with Lane College falling to Clark Atlanta University, the Magicians officially locked up the number three seed in the Western Division for the SIAC Tournament. The postseason will now begin at home, where LeMoyne-Owen will host the number six seed from the East.

Entering the matchup with momentum, LeMoyne-Owen College continued its strong late season surge. The Magicians have now won six of their last eight games, positioning themselves as one of the hottest teams heading into tournament play.

Although it was Senior Night, Head Coach Faragi Phillips does not have any seniors on the roster this season. Instead, his experienced junior class rose to the occasion in a game that carried significant postseason implications.

LaDricus Pittman once again demonstrated why he is the engine of this team. The junior guard delivered a complete performance with 17 points, six rebounds, nine assists, and one steal. Pittman's ability to penetrate the defense and create open opportunities for teammates proved critical in a tightly contested battle. His vision and leadership ensured the Magicians maintained offensive composure in key stretches.

Andre Walker II provided a major lift off the bench, spearheading a second unit that produced 26 points. Walker led that effort with 12 points, six rebounds, and one assist while delivering one of his most efficient shooting performances of the season. He connected on 66 percent of his field goal attempts and shot 50 percent from beyond the arc, providing timely scoring that kept LeMoyne-Owen in control.

Defense once again defined the Magicians' identity. They limited the Wildcats to just 30.8 percent shooting from the field and 28.6 percent from three point range. Active rotations, disciplined closeouts, and strong rebounding effort prevented Fort Valley State from finding consistent rhythm. Every defensive possession reflected the focus and cohesion that has fueled the team's recent success.

The victory not only secured favorable tournament positioning but also reinforced the growth this team has shown throughout the season. With confidence building and contributions coming from both the starting lineup and the bench, the Magicians appear to be peaking at the right time.

LeMoyne-Owen will look to carry this momentum into its regular season finale at home against Allen University on Wednesday, February 25 at 7:00 pm. With an opportunity to complete another series sweep and further solidify their postseason rhythm, the Magicians aim to close the regular season on a high note before turning their full attention to tournament competition.

As the postseason approaches, LeMoyne-Owen has established itself as a resilient and balanced contender, ready to defend its home court and pursue a deep run in the SIAC Tournament.
