LeMoyne Owen College came up just short in a tightly contested conference showdown, falling 67 to 65 against Clark Atlanta University in a game that was decided in the closing moments. Despite one of their more efficient shooting performances of the season, the Magicians were unable to overcome costly turnovers and missed opportunities at the free throw line.
LeMoyne-Owen College executed effectively on the offensive end for much of the contest. The Magicians shot an impressive 50 percent from the field and 43.8 percent from beyond the arc, consistently finding quality looks and converting from long range. However, ball security proved to be the decisive factor. LeMoyne Owen committed 21 turnovers while recording just 14 assists, allowing Clark Atlanta to capitalize on extra possessions. Free throw shooting also hindered the effort, as the Magicians converted only 57.1 percent from the line in a game ultimately decided by two points.
Junior guard LaDricus Pittman once again led the offensive charge, finishing with a team high 17 points. He added five assists and two steals while shooting 53.84 percent from the field and 50 percent from three point range. Pittman's efficiency and leadership kept the Magicians within striking distance throughout the night.
Marial Malek delivered another commanding performance in the paint, recording a double double with 13 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three steals. Over the past several games, Malek has elevated his presence on both ends of the floor, consistently impacting the game with his physicality and defensive instincts.
Andre Walker II provided a significant spark off the bench, contributing 16 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals in a well rounded effort. His ability to score and create plays added valuable depth and energy to the lineup. Joshua Whitehurst also continued his strong perimeter play, finishing with nine points while shooting a perfect percentage from beyond the arc.
While the outcome was disappointing, the Magicians demonstrated resilience and offensive efficiency against a competitive opponent. The narrow margin underscores how evenly matched the contest was from start to finish.
With the loss, LeMoyne Owen now faces a pivotal stretch to close the regular season. The Magicians need one victory in their final two games to secure the number three seed in the SIAC Tournament. Achieving that mark would guarantee a first round home game at Bruce Johnson Hall, an important advantage in postseason play.
LeMoyne Owen will look to secure that critical win this Saturday, February 21, when they host Fort Valley State University for Senior Night. Tip off is scheduled for 5:00 pm. With playoff positioning on the line, the Magicians will aim to respond with focus and determination as they pursue a bounce back victory in front of their home crowd.
