Lemoyne-Owen College men's baseball team fell 3-12 on the road at Arkansas Pine-Bluff University this past Wednesday.
The Magicians fought hard and stayed in it until the end, but the Golden Tigers would pull away late in the ball game to claim their sixth victory of the season.
The Magicians led 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning when UAPB outfielder Declaudio Irvin doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs giving them a 4-3 lead.
The Magicians struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing UAPB giving up 12 runs.
Avery Willis was on the pitcher's mound for the Magicians and pitched six innings, allowing eight runs on six hits. Freshman Jonathan Williams threw two innings out of the bullpen.
Johnathan Coleman who is also a freshman led the Magicians with two hits in four at bats. Alex Rodriguez displayed some crafty base running skills accounting for three of the teams six stolen bases.
Although progress doesn't always show up in the stat sheet or the wins and losses column, the Magicians are improving each game and Head Coach Patrick Newman is feeling good about the direction of the program.
