Entering Saturday afternoon's 67-71 loss to SIAC conference rival Lane College, the LeMoyne-Owen College women's basketball team were winners in 4 of their last 5 ball games.
The two teams were dead locked at 18-18 after the first quarter, in a game that remained close from start to finish. At half-time the score was all knotted up 33-33 with neither team able to gain an advantage. The Lady Magicians would win the third quarter 14-11 and take a 57-54 lead into the into the 4th quarter. This game had 14 ties, 17 lead changes and the feel of a conference tournament match.
The LeMoyne-Owen backcourt had an impressive showing with guards Amil Mitchell(15), Madison Riley(13), and Tya Freeman(13)combining for 41 points, shooting %50 from the field in the game.
Mitchell would have a chance to give the Lady Magicians the win but was called for an offensive foul on a right-handed drive to the basket, as the game clock winded down With 2.4 seconds remaining in the game the Lady Dragons would retain possession, ultimately miss firing on a desperation heave.
In overtime, Lane college would pull away improving their record to 12-6, giving Magicians Head Coach Antony Partee and his team their 11th loss of the season.
The Lady Magicians will get a chance to redeem themselves as they will host Lane College in a rematch February 5th at 5:30pm in Bruce-Johnson Hall.
