What a difference a week makes. Just a week ago the LeMoyne-Owen College Lady Magicians lost to Lane College 67-71 on the road in overtime.
Saturday afternoon the team would get their chance at revenge. The two teams faced off at Southwest Community College due to power outages from an winter ice storm that affected many businesses and residences in the Memphis area.
Although the game wasn't played at their home venue ask scheduled, the Lady Magicians adapted to their new scenery and came to play right from the jump. Just like the last time these two teams faced off, the game went back and forth and had several lead changes throughout the night. The Lady Magicians trailed by 1 point after the first three quarters and would make a variety of plays on both ends of the floor to help them to secure a 69-63 conference victory.
Senior forwards Takya Bennett and Patrisha Lollis dominated the Lady Dragons front court combining for 28 points and 24 rebounds. Bennett led all scorers with 17 points and also grabbed 15 rebounds, while Lollis scored 11 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. This was especially important for the team after the two seniors combined for just 9 points in the first meeting with their conference rival. Amil Mitchell also scored in double-figures, pouring in 14 points to go along with 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Although the Magicians only had three players in double figures, they had big contributions from many more players..
The depth of this team has been one of the bright spots for Head Coach Antony Partee and his coaching staff all season long. Nine different Lady Magicians scored in the game, which was even closer than the six point win margin suggest. With Saturday afternoon's victory the Lady Magicians are now 8-11 and seem to be trending in the right direction heading down the final stretch of the regular season.
The Lady Magicians take the court again Wednesday, February 9th on the road at Tougaloo College. The game is scheduled to start at 5:30pm.
