Lane College struck first and jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead causing LeMoyne-Owen College head coach Bonzi Wells to call an early timeout. Wells needed to make sure that his guys were all on the same page.
The Magicians struggled the entire first half of play shooting 7-30 from the field and just 2-12 from three point range. Lane college took a 31-20 lead into halftime. In the second half of play the Magicians looked like a totally different team. After making half-time time adjustments they outscored Lane 12-3 in the first four minutes of the half, cutting the Dragons lead to just 1 point.
SIAC conference player of the year candidate Jaquan Lawrence got off to a slow start, shooting 1-5 from the field in the first half. Lawrence would go on to score 17 points and grab 15 rebounds giving him his 10th double-double of the season. Jaquan was one of three Magicians in double figures Saturday night. Dwight Murray poured in 13 points for the Magicians and is averaging 17ppg over the course of the last threes games. In those three games Murray is leading all Magicians in scoring.
Junior guard Andrew Anderson sparked the Magicians second unit, adding 10 points and 5 rebounds. The LeMoyne-Owen bench outscored the Lane bench 19-5 and big plays from Jalen Fisher, Gjerard Wilson and Andrew Anderson would help LeMoyne-Owen secure a 62-49 road victory at Oman Arena.
The two teams will face off next Saturday at Bruce-Johnson Hall. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:30pm.
