Memphis Tn- Our Lemoyne-Owen Magicians played their first exhibition game against the Tigers of Edward Waters College from Jacksonville, Florida, Saturday night in front of a sold out crowd at the Bruce-Johnson Hall on the campus of LOC. While this was the first time Edward Waters has taken on the Magicians for "Home Coming," it was their head coach Fred Summer, a Memphian, who prepped at Southside High, who has a longtime relationship with LOC Head Coach William Anderson.
In front of a sold out home crowd, the Magicians were lead by 6'11" Ken "KP' Perkins, who showed why so many people are excited about this upcoming year. Ken scored his 22 points 8 rebounds and 3 assists in just 25 minutes of play. He scored inside and on the perimeter and brought the crowd to their feet with a vicious one hand slam over the Tiger- 6-8 Nikola Radovic. We also saw returning freshman of the year and first team All - SIAC Conference Devin" Sparky" Booker light it up from outside with 17 of his own. The Magicians had a very balanced attack with a two headed monster with All-SIAC Conference Tyrone Banks, and Freshman Jordan "Tiger" Booker at the point. Ty showed his leadership by setting his teammates up and scoring with his lightning quick speed and ability to finish after absorbing contact. Jordan Booker at 5-8 had a show stopping one hand dunk after a steal that made the ground shake. Tory Mason lead the Magicians' rebounding efforts with 14 and the team out rebounded the Tigers 49-26. Toriano Stokes tallied 7 caroms and Jaquan Lawrence had 6 for the night.
The team was impressive with a balanced defensive and offensive attack. This balance allowed Coach Anderson to play everyone and everyone contributed. The Magicians will take on the 14th ranked University of Memphis Tigers on Monday, October 28 at 7:00pm, in the FEDEX Forum.
