Jerel Jernigan is in his second season as the assistant men's basketball coach at LeMoyne-Owen College. Jernigan was the first hire of head coach Bonzi Wells to begin his era in the college coaching ranks.
In 2021-22, he completed his first season as the top assistant coach for LeMoyne-Owen College. Jernigan is involved in all facets of the Magician program, including recruiting, scouting and player development. Prior to LeMoyne- Owen Jernigan spent two seasons at North Iowa Area Community College before being named an assistant coach at Emporia State University.
The Muncie Indiana native helped NIACC to two straight ICCAC tournament championship appearances (2018-2019 and 2019-20) and a 50-12 record. The team broke the schools single season wins record with 25 wins.
During the 2014-2015 season, Jernigan served as a volunteer assistant coach the prestigious Indiana high school basketball powerhouse Muncie Central High School.
In his playing career, Jernigan attended North Iowa Area Community College . As a Trojan Jernigan averaged 9.8ppg and 3.0apg for two seasons. He was a 2010-2011 ICCAC all all conference selection and finished top 20 in program history for 3pt field goals made.
