LeMoyne-Owen sophomore Kevin Maya has been named SIAC Pitcher of the Week after delivering a dominant performance on the mound in Game 2 of the Magicians' three game series against Benedict College. His outstanding effort led LeMoyne-Owen to a 3 to 1 victory over the Tigers and stood as one of the most impressive pitching displays of the season.
Maya took full command from the opening pitch and never wavered. He worked all seven innings for the Magicians, allowing just one run while consistently controlling the pace of the game. His ability to stay composed and execute in key moments kept Benedict hitters off balance throughout the contest. Maya faced 26 batters and struck out 10, showcasing both power and precision as he navigated through the Tigers' lineup.
Efficiency played a major role in his success. Maya threw 100 total pitches, with 69 of those going for strikes. His command of the strike zone forced hitters into difficult situations and limited scoring opportunities. Time and time again, he delivered in pressure moments, shutting down potential rallies and preserving the Magicians' lead.
Beyond the numbers, Maya's performance demonstrated his growth and leadership on the mound. He set the tone early and carried that energy through the final inning, giving his team a chance to secure a key win in the series. His ability to control the game from start to finish reflects the confidence and maturity that define his presence on the field.
With this well deserved recognition, Kevin Maya continues to establish himself as one of the top pitchers in the conference and a cornerstone of LeMoyne-Owen's success this season.
