Magicians Battle Hard but Fall in Three Game Series at Morehouse

The LeMoyne-Owen baseball team traveled to Atlanta, Georgia for an important conference series against Morehouse College, facing a competitive Maroon Tigers squad in a three game set. Despite strong offensive efforts in two of the contests, the Magicians were unable to secure a victory, falling by scores of 7 to 5, 11 to 1, and 9 to 8. While the series did not produce the desired outcome, LeMoyne-Owen showed resilience and flashes of offensive production that kept them competitive throughout the weekend.

Game one was a tightly contested match-up that saw LeMoyne-Owen produce one of its more balanced offensive performances of the series. The Magicians recorded 11 hits and scored nine runs, consistently applying pressure throughout the game. Cedric Poellnitz II led the offensive effort with an impressive 3 for 6 performance, driving in two runs and collecting a double. Seth Terrell also delivered a strong outing, going 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and an RBI, while reaching base four times thanks to two walks.

OJ Seaille contributed at the top of the lineup, finishing 1 for 5 with a run scored, a walk, and two stolen bases, helping to create opportunities on the base paths. Tahj Williams added a hit and an RBI, while the Magicians showed aggressiveness on the bases with six stolen bases as a team. Despite the offensive output, pitching challenges proved to be the difference, as LeMoyne-Owen allowed 12 runs on eight hits while issuing nine walks. Even with the loss, the Magicians demonstrated their ability to compete offensively against a conference opponent.

Game two presented a different challenge, as LeMoyne-Owen struggled to find consistent offense in an 11 to 1 defeat. The Magicians managed just four hits in the contest while striking out 11 times, limiting their ability to build momentum at the plate.

Poellnitz II once again provided a bright spot, recording a hit and a double while scoring the team's lone run. Sincere Lozano also contributed with a hit, while the lineup showed flashes of potential but could not string together timely hits. On the mound, the Magicians faced difficulties containing the Morehouse offense, allowing 10 runs while issuing 11 walks, which extended innings and created scoring opportunities for the Maroon Tigers.

In the series finale, LeMoyne-Owen delivered its most competitive performance of the weekend, battling to the final inning in a narrow 9 to 8 loss. The Magicians once again showcased their offensive capabilities, recording 11 hits and scoring runs in multiple innings to stay within striking distance throughout the game.

Several players contributed to the offensive effort in game three. Poellnitz II continued his strong series with another hit, while Seth Terrell added a hit and reached base in key situations. Seaille contributed with a hit and remained active on the base paths, while the lineup collectively worked to keep the game close.

Despite the offensive production, defensive miscues proved costly, as the Magicians committed three errors that allowed Morehouse to capitalize and extend innings. On the mound, the pitching staff allowed eight runs, with key moments determining the outcome of the game late.

Across the three game series, several Magicians stood out with consistent performances at the plate. Poellnitz II was one of the most productive hitters, combining for five hits across the series, including a double, while driving in multiple runs and providing stability in the middle of the lineup. Seth Terrell also delivered a strong series, finishing with three hits, including a home run and a double, while driving in multiple runs and drawing key walks.

Seaille contributed three hits, scored multiple runs, and added stolen bases, continuing to be a catalyst at the top of the order. Tahj Williams added two hits and an RBI, while Lozano contributed with key at bats and reached base in critical moments.

As a team, LeMoyne-Owen showed offensive potential, totaling 26 hits and 14 runs across the three games. However, pitching and defensive consistency remained areas for improvement, as the Magicians allowed a combined 27 runs and issued a high number of walks throughout the series.

While the results did not fall in their favor, the Magicians demonstrated resilience and competitiveness, particularly in games one and three where they remained within striking distance until the final innings. These performances highlight the team's ability to compete in conference play when execution is consistent.

LeMoyne-Owen will now look to regroup and bounce back as they return home for their next conference series on March 21 and 22 against Benedict College. Games one and two are scheduled for March 21 at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., with the series finale set for March 22 at 1:00 p.m. The Magicians will look to build on their offensive production, clean up defensive play, and respond with a stronger showing as they continue their conference schedule.
