The LeMoyne-Owen College baseball team continued conference play on the road in Fairfield, Alabama with a three game series against Miles College. Entering the weekend as their second conference series of the season, the Magicians faced a tough test and ultimately dropped all three games by scores of 12 to 9, 4 to 2, and 10 to 1. Despite the outcomes, LeMoyne-Owen showed flashes of offensive strength and individual standout performances against a competitive conference opponent.
Game one proved to be the most competitive match-up of the series, as the Magicians delivered one of their strongest offensive showings of the season. LeMoyne-Owen totaled 11 hits and scored 9 runs, producing consistently throughout the game and putting pressure on the Miles College pitching staff.
Leading the way offensively was Cedric Poellnitz, who turned in an impressive performance by going 3 for 6 with a double and 2 RBIs. He was a consistent presence in the middle of the lineup and delivered in key moments. Seth Terrell also had a standout game, finishing 2 for 4 with a double, a home run, 2 runs scored, and an RBI. His power at the plate gave LeMoyne-Owen a much needed spark and helped keep the game within reach.
The Magicians also received contributions across the lineup. Kevin Maya added multiple hits, while OJ Seaille used his speed to create opportunities, recording a hit, stealing two bases, and scoring a run. As a team, LeMoyne-Owen was aggressive on the base paths, totaling six stolen bases in the game.
However, pitching struggles ultimately proved to be the difference. The Magicians allowed 12 runs while issuing 9 walks, giving Miles College numerous opportunities to capitalize and pull away late in the game.
Game two presented a tighter, more controlled contest, but LeMoyne-Owen was unable to generate enough offense, falling 4 to 2. The Magicians recorded 6 hits and showed improved pitching, but defensive miscues limited their ability to secure a win.
Cedric Poellnitz II continued his strong weekend, going 1 for 3 and scoring a run. Seth Terrell added another hit, while OJ Seaille contributed a base hit as well. Kevin Maya delivered a solid outing on the mound, pitching all 6 innings and allowing 4 runs while striking out 4 batters. Despite his effort, LeMoyne-Owen committed 3 errors, which played a significant role in the outcome of the game.
In the series finale, the Magicians struggled to find offensive rhythm, managing just 4 hits in a 10 to 1 loss. Miles College capitalized on control issues and extended innings to build a commanding lead.
Cedric Poellnitz II remained one of the most consistent performers, going 1 for 3 with a double and scoring the team's only run. Christian Lozano added a hit, but the offense as a whole was limited throughout the game. On the mound, LeMoyne-Owen allowed 10 runs and issued 11 walks, which allowed Miles College to control the tempo from start to finish.
Across the three game series, several Magicians produced notable combined performances. Cedric Poellnitz led the team offensively, finishing with 5 hits, including 2 doubles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 RBIs. Seth Terrell also contributed significantly, recording 3 hits, including a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in an RBI.
OJ Seaille added value both at the plate and on the base paths, finishing the series with multiple hits, 3 stolen bases, and 2 runs scored. Kevin Maya contributed both offensively and on the mound, collecting multiple hits in game one and delivering a complete game effort in game two.
While LeMoyne-Owen showed the ability to produce offensively, particularly in the opening game, the series highlighted areas that need improvement. The Magicians allowed a combined 26 runs across the three games while issuing a high number of walks and committing key defensive errors. Those factors made it difficult to sustain momentum and compete late in games.
Even with the results, the Magicians demonstrated resilience and continued to compete against conference opposition. The ability to generate offense and produce strong individual performances provides a foundation that the team can build on moving forward.
LeMoyne-Owen will now look ahead to their next conference series on February 22 and 23, as they travel to Albany, Georgia to face Albany State in a three game match-up. Games are scheduled for February 22 at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., with the series finale on February 23 at 12:00 p.m. As the Magicians continue conference play, their focus will be on sharpening execution and turning competitive moments into complete performances that translate into wins.
