LeMoyne-Owen College has taken a bold and promising step toward revitalizing its athletic programs with the hiring of Christopher B. Davis, II as the new head coach for Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country. Davis, who accepted the position this past December, arrives with a dynamic blend of competitive excellence, military discipline and media experience that signals a fresh chapter for the Magicians.
A Memphis native, Davis's journey in track and field began with distinction at Memphis University School, where he quickly established himself as one of the state's premier athletes. In 2013, he captured the TSSAA State Championship in the triple jump, showcasing his explosive athleticism. He followed that performance with another state title in 2014 in the 400 meters, demonstrating both speed and endurance. Davis was also a key contributor to the school's 4x400 meter relay team, which set a state record, and he played an instrumental role in securing the 2014 TSSAA Outdoor Track and Field Team Title. These early achievements laid the foundation for a career defined by versatility and determination.
Davis continued his athletic career at Southeast Missouri State University, where he competed as a decathlete during his first two years of college. His freshman campaign proved especially impressive, as he placed fifth in the heptathlon at the 2016 Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships and followed it with a second place finish in the decathlon at the 2016 OVC Outdoor Championships. He was a key point scorer for the team's 2016 OVC Outdoor Championships team title. His performances reflected not only his physical capabilities but also his ability to compete at a high level across multiple disciplines.
After two years at Southeast Missouri State, Davis made the life changing decision to serve his country by joining the United States Army. Over the course of six years, he worked in supply and logistics, gaining invaluable leadership experience and a disciplined mindset that now shapes his approach to coaching. His time in the military instilled in him a deep sense of accountability and resilience, qualities that he brings to his new role at LeMoyne-Owen.
Following his military service, Davis relocated to Fayetteville to complete his undergraduate education at the University of Arkansas. In December 2025, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Sports Information, further expanding his skill set beyond athletics. During his time at Arkansas, he contributed to the UA News team and worked with the Hogs Plus Sports Media team, experiences that prepared him for his additional role as Sports Information Director at LeMoyne-Owen.
Now stepping into his new position, Davis is eager to revamp the upcoming season and build a culture rooted in excellence, discipline and opportunity. His diverse background as an elite athlete, a soldier and a communicator uniquely positions him to connect with student athletes and elevate the program both on and off the track. As LeMoyne-Owen looks ahead, the hiring of Christopher B. Davis, II represents more than a coaching change. It marks the beginning of a renewed vision, one driven by passion and the promise of greatness.
