The LeMoyne-Owen College men's and women's track and field teams continued their outdoor campaign with a competitive showing at the Morehouse Relays in Atlanta. Facing a deep field of competitors, the Magicians men's team secured a tenth place finish out of fifteen teams, while the women's team placed thirteenth. Despite the final standings, the meet reflected steady progress, as the program combined for seven top eight finishes and two podium performances.
Among the highlights on the women's side was a breakthrough performance from senior Jacky Beltran in the javelin. Beltran placed eighth while recording a lifetime best mark, an achievement that underscored her persistence and growth in the event. Senior Mashanti Saddler also contributed with an eighth place finish in the long jump, posting a mark of 4.97 meters and adding valuable points for the team.
On the men's side, Kelvin Rozier continued to build on an already impressive season in the triple jump. The sophomore earned a second place finish with a leap of 14.33 meters, a collegiate lifetime best that further established him as one of the top competitors in the conference. This performance marked his third consecutive podium finish in the event, highlighting both his consistency and upward trajectory. Jacob Coleman matched that success in the long jump, also securing second place with a mark of 6.78 meters. For Coleman, it was a second straight podium finish, reinforcing his reliability as a key contributor for the Magicians.
In the throwing events, senior Prince Nde delivered a personal milestone of his own in the javelin. His throw of 31.87 meters earned him an eighth place finish and represented a lifetime best, adding to a growing list of individual achievements for the team throughout the meet.
Relay events provided additional bright spots for LeMoyne-Owen, as both the men's and women's squads demonstrated strong coordination and competitive spirit. The men's 4x100 meter relay B team, composed of Charles Smith, Isaiah Fields, Terrence Stephenson Jr., and K'Sean Curry, placed eighth with a time of 52.30 seconds. On the women's side, the 4x100 meter relay team of Tajana Sims, Saddler, Jojo O'Neal, and Mya McKenzie also secured an eighth place finish, recording a time of 51.86 seconds, which stands as their second fastest mark of the season.
The men's 4x400 meter relay A team of Coleman, Andre Phillips, Rozier, and Michael Robinson delivered one of the most encouraging performances of the meet, posting a season best time of 3:35.00. Their effort highlighted improved chemistry and endurance, closing out the competition with a strong showing.
While the final team placements may not fully capture the effort displayed, the Morehouse Relays served as an important step forward for the Magicians. Personal records and consistent finishes across multiple events demonstrated a team that is steadily improving and gaining confidence with each competition.
Looking ahead, LeMoyne-Owen will travel to Cape Girardeau for the Joey Haines Invitational at Southeast Missouri State University on April 3 and 4. With momentum building and athletes continuing to reach new milestones, the Magicians are positioning themselves for stronger performances in the weeks to come.
