The LOC women's basketball team is in high spirits after their 78-70 upset win over Allen University.
The Lady Magicians have had a roller coaster season slowed by a barrage of injuries. Despite those injuries the team is currently exactly where they want to be. Coming into the SIAC tournament not a lot of people had the Lady Magicians advancing to the next round. The team entered the tournament with a 8-20 record, however they did get a huge senior night victory. That was all the momentum the team needed.
In the first quarter of the game the Lady Magicians would take a 19-15 lead and had one of their better quarterback of the season. Indy the second quarter the Lady Magicians would go on a 23-12 run and take 42-27 lead into the half. Second seed Allen would answer the Lady Magicians run with a 30-13 run of their own, giving them a 55-57 lead heading into the fourth.
In the fourth and final quarter it would be the Lady Magicians who would have the last laugh and outscored Allen 23-13 and advance to the next round of play. Junior guard Keri's McGhee led the Lady Magicians with 22 points on 8-10 shooting connecting on 4 of her 5 three point attempts. Senior guard Kennedy Fuller also came up big for the team and provided 21 points to go along with 6 rebounds. Newcomer Janara Williams scored 13 points while guard Marley Freeman added 10 points to go along with 9 rebounds.
The Lady Magicians will face rival Lane College at 11:00am in Atlanta, GA for a chance to advance to the next round. The two teams met twice this season, Lane College came away with wins in both contests.
