The LOC women's basketball team loss game one of their pre-season schedule 50-59 to Philander Smith.
Lady Magicians Head Coach Kimberly Anderson isn't hitting the panic button. For most teams the pre-season is the time to get jitters out and develop team chemistry before the regular season. That's the approach the team will be taking into this weeks practice.
Defensively, the Lady Magicians came out ready to guard and held Philander to just 24 first half points. However, they only scored 15 points in the first half themselves, only five of those points came in the second quarter. The team shot just 5-16 from the field in the first half and went 4-11 from the free-throw line. In the second half the Lady Magicians would find more of a rhythm and start to play the way the had envisioned. The team scored 35 points in the second half, tying the second half amount of Philander. Despite a more efficient second half, the Lady Magicians weren't able to pull off the come from behind win.
LOC was led in scoring by pre-season All-SIAC guard Marley Freeman. Freeman scored 14 points and connected on 8-10 free-throw attempts. Also in double figures for the evening was senior forward Janara Williams, who scored 10 points and grabbed 3 rebounds. The Lady Magicians will look to avenge the homecoming loss this Friday on the road at Dillard University. The game is scheduled for 5:30pm.
