Alexis Vigil is a coach's dream, the 5'4 junior from Jemez Pueblo, New Mexico never backs down from a challenge.
Alexis is the youngest in her family, and the only girl amongst three brothers. That explains her drive and competitive nature. Initially Vigil was recruited to LeMoyne-Owen College to play 3rd base on the softball team. For the past two seasons she has not only played a vital role on the softball team, she has also starred as a distance runner for the women's cross country team.
This season Alexis has emerged as the LOC cross country team's best runner. She has been amazing for us this season, we're really grateful to have her", said head coach Dr. Gathje. When Alexis was asked to join the LOC cross country team it was a no brainer for her. "For generations, my ancestors ran for many reasons—ceremonial and spiritual purposes, communication, travel, hunting, and even war", said Vigil.
Over the course of the next few weeks Vigil will be preparing for the SIAC cross country championships, training for softball, and balancing her studies. Not only is she a dual sport athlete, she also maintains a 3.5 gpa and has been a deans list scholar since her freshman year.
Working hard is nothing new to
Alexis Vigil, it's something she has done her whole life and a big reason why she has been so successful at LeMoyne-Owen. She credits her work ethic to her mother and father who have always led by example and set high standards for her.
