Magicians Lose Thriller In Double OT

 Tuskegee University & LOC men's basketball needed not one, but two overtimes Monday night inside the Daniel "Chappie" James Center in an important Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game.


The win, Tuskegee's second straight, lifted the Golden Tigers to 11-13 overall and 10-7 in league play. LeMoyne-Owen fell to 8-17 and 6-12.

Tuskegee led 38-25 at halftime, but LeMoyne-Owen used a 22-9 run over the first 12 minutes of the second half to tie the game at 47 on a 3-pointer by Tariq Shepherd with 8:02 remaining. Chris Peoples' 3-pointer at the 2:35 mark gave the Magicians a 55-51 lead, but the Golden Tigers closed the game on a 6-2 run and Sesberry's two free throw with 28 seconds left forced overtime with the game tied at 57 apiece.

LeMoyne-Owen took control in the extra period and led 71-66 on a layup by Shepherd with 33 seconds left, but Christopher Whitmore Jr. hit a 3-pointer to pull Tuskegee within 71-69 and Sesberry hit two free throws with three seconds left to tie the game at 71 to force double overtime.

Dylan Cambridge's layup with 1:50 left in double overtime gave Tuskegee the lead for good and Pennington sealed the victory with two free throws with eight seconds left to give the Golden Tigers the 81-76 win.

Draper recorded a double-double with 21 points and 19 rebounds to lead Tuskegee. He also had four assists, one steal and a block. Sesberry finished with 19 points, six rebounds, one assist, three steals and two blocks. Pennington had 15 points, three rebounds, nine assists and three steals.

The Golden Tigers shot 38.2 percent (29-of-76) from the field, including 29.4 percent (5-of-17) from 3-point range, and 60 percent (18-of-30) from the free throw line.

Peoples led five LeMoyne-Owen players in double figures with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Matthew Spears finished with 15 points, Shepherd and Christian Wells had 14 apiece, while Jordan added 12.

The Magicians shot 38 percent (27-of-71) from the field, including 29.4 percent (10-of-34) from deep, and 44.4 percent (12-of-27) from the charity stripe.
