Greene Named Memphis City Council HBCU Scholarship Recipient

Incoming freshman Teairah Greene is one of four LeMoyne-Owen College students to receive a scholarship from the Memphis City Council HBCU SCholarship Fund.

Greene was the first signee of the 2023 LeMoyne-Owen College women's volleyball recruiting class.

In 2023, the Memphis City Council HBCU Scholarship Fund made scholarship awards to 84 students, totaling $448,200, to attend 25 different historically Black colleges and universities.

The fund was created by the Memphis City Council at the urging of City Council chairman and HBCU alumnus Martavius Jones. The City Council earmarked $1 million in American Rescue Plan Recovery Act funding for Shelby County high school graduates who need financial support to attend accredited HBCUs over the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years.

The first day of classes at LOC is Monday, August 21st. "These are the types of resources we need for our student athletes, we're super proud of Teairah", said Lady Magicians head coach Reginald Morris.
