The LeMoyne-Owen College women's basketball team has won their last two ball games and are now 12-12, needing wins in their last two games to finish the season above .500.
This past Saturday the Lady Magicians defeated Kentucky State University 70-67 in the second meeting of the two teams this season. Earlier this season the Lady Magicians beat the Lady Thoroughbreds on a last second shot by senior guard Tya Freeman.
A solid offensive team effort allowed the Magicians to take an 18-8 first-quarter lead. LeMoyne-Owen gained a 21 point lead late in the second quarter to go into halftime with a 39-22 lead.
Kentucky State returned from the half-ready to compete, outscoring the Magicians 21-14 in the third quarter. A late game rally by Kentucky State would help cut the Lady Magicians lead to one (67-68, LOC) in the final ten seconds of the fourth quarter on a fast-break layup. In the final moments, the Magicians would be sent to the free-throw line to go 2-of-2 from the strike to win the game 70-67.
Kamryn Knight led the Lady Magicians with a season high 15 points to go along with six rebounds . Heaven Thompson (14) Takya Bennett(12) and Madison Riley(11) also scored in double figures on the evening.
