Lady Magicians Slip By Alumni Team In Overtime

The LeMoyne-Owen women's basketball team got their first taste of action yesterday in the LOC Alumni game.

The game was very intense and had more of a regular season feel to it. The teams went back and forth all night in a game that had several lead changes. "They played very well, I think I could of made a couple of decisions to help us get the victory", said Christol Howard. Howard is a former LOC guard, who coached the alumni team for the evening.

In regulation both teams took leads in the final minutes of the game, but it would be the Lady Magicians who would have the final chance to win the game in regulation. With 2 seconds remaining in the game, the team would turn the ball over as time expired, sending the game into overtime.

The Lady Magicians would eventually take a 65-64 lead with about eleven seconds left. The alumni team would have a final shot to win the game but was stopped, giving the head coach Antony Partee and the Lady Magicians the win.

"It was good to compete against someone other than ourselves, we've still got a lot of work to do but we will be ready come opening night", said Partee.

Gemariona Hollingsworth-Pugh lead the Lady Magicians in scoring with 14 points, for the Alumni team it was Shanice Sprouse, who led all scorers with 23 points.

The team will begin exhibition play on Sunday October 29th at Bruce-Johnson Hall, in their Homecoming game vs. Xavier (La). The Game Will begin at 4:00pm
