The LeMoyne-Owen College women's basketball team last their season opener to Mississippi college tonight in a game that would be decided in the final minutes. The Lady Magicians were ice cold from the field, shooting just 28% for the game and 25% from 3-point range. Freshman
Jayla Fuller provided nearly 50% of the team's scoring and nailed three of her four three-point field goal attempts. Fuller was the only player in double figures for the team, finishing with 16 points on 5/10 shooting. Outside of Fuller's three-point field goals, the team went 0-9 for distance.
Mississippi College took a 28-23 lead into half time, a lead that they did not give up the rest of the night. Although they were able to pull out a 46-41 victory they struggled offensively as well, shooting only 28% from the field. The difference in the game seemed to be that they connected on more three-point field goals, draining 6 of their twenty-one three-point field goals attempted on the night. The Choctaws were led in scoring by forward Amelia Bell who scored 12 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Also in double figures for Mississippi College was guard Kyiah Julian.
The Lady Magicians return to action tomorrow evening at 5:30 pm on the road against Delta State University.
