Lady Magicians Honor Seniors While Battling Through Tough Series Against Spring Hill

With Senior Day setting the stage, the LeMoyne-Owen softball team took the field against Spring Hill College in a conference series that tested both their resilience and their resolve. While the results did not fall in their favor, the weekend was highlighted by the celebration of Senior Day and the recognition of two key contributors in Jaliyah Davis and Aysia Lewis. Despite the difficult outcomes, the Lady Magicians continued to compete with determination and showed flashes of growth throughout the series.

In game one, LeMoyne-Owen struggled to find offensive rhythm in a 13 to 0 loss. The Lady Magicians were limited to just one hit in the contest, while drawing two walks as they attempted to generate scoring opportunities. Kelby Harvey and Jaci Joiner each reached base, but the team was unable to string together consistent offense. In the circle, Khaylani Bailey worked through five innings, battling against a high powered lineup while continuing to compete and keep the game moving forward.

Game two showed a stronger offensive effort from the Lady Magicians, though they fell 16 to 2. LeMoyne-Owen recorded six hits in the contest, highlighted by an outstanding performance from Kelby Harvey, who went a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate and scored a run. Her consistency provided a spark for the offense and set the tone for the lineup. Bailey added a hit, while Joiner also contributed with a base hit. The Lady Magicians were able to push across two runs, including a solo home run that accounted for one of their scoring plays. Despite the improved offensive showing, defensive miscues and a late scoring surge by Spring Hill proved to be the difference.

The series finale served as both a competitive match-up and a meaningful moment for the program, as LeMoyne-Owen honored seniors Jaliyah Davis and Aysia Lewis on Senior Day. Although the Lady Magicians fell 16 to 0, the focus remained on celebrating the contributions of two players who have helped shape the program. Davis and Lewis both took the field for the final home series of their careers, representing the dedication and commitment that have defined their time at LeMoyne-Owen.

Offensively, the Lady Magicians continued to fight for opportunities, drawing four walks and showing patience at the plate despite being held without a hit. The team created traffic on the bases but was unable to capitalize in key moments. Defensively, LeMoyne-Owen competed throughout the game and worked to limit damage after a pivotal third inning.

Across the three game series, several Lady Magicians stood out for their efforts. Kelby Harvey was a key contributor, finishing with three hits and a run scored in game two while consistently applying pressure at the plate. Jaci Joiner added two hits across the series and remained a steady presence in the lineup. Khaylani Bailey contributed both offensively and in the circle, showing versatility and leadership throughout the weekend. Reagan Petry and Kerrielle Brown also worked to create opportunities at the top of the lineup, helping the team stay engaged offensively.

While the results were not what the Lady Magicians had hoped for, the series provided valuable experience as the team continues to grow and develop. The recognition of Jaliyah Davis and Aysia Lewis added a meaningful element to the weekend, celebrating their impact on the program and their leadership over the course of their careers.

LeMoyne-Owen will now turn its attention to its final conference series of the season as they travel to Jackson, Tennessee on April 18 and April 19 to face   arch rival Lane College. Games one and two are scheduled for April 18 at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., with game three set for April 19 at 12:00 p.m. The stakes will be high, as a series victory would secure a spot in the SIAC Tournament and mark the program's first appearance in thirteen years. With everything on the line, the Lady Magicians now have one final opportunity to turn their season into history.
