New Era, New Expectations: Magicians Ready to Tee Off Under Worthen

A new chapter is underway for the LeMoyne-Owen College men's golf program as head coach Dominique Worthen prepares his team for a spring season filled with opportunity, growth and renewed energy. With a carefully balanced roster that blends veteran leadership and emerging young talent, the Magicians enter the season with a sense of purpose and optimism that reflects their coach's vision for the program.

Worthen inherits a core group of experienced players who understand the demands of collegiate competition and the discipline required to succeed. Seniors Marvin Johnson and Jason Curry return as steady presences, bringing not only skill but also leadership that will be essential in guiding a younger roster. Their experience competing in high pressure situations gives the Magicians a level of composure that cannot be taught overnight. Alongside them is junior Zion Hall, whose continued development has positioned him as a key contributor this season. Together, this trio forms the foundation of a team that is determined to take meaningful steps forward.

Complementing the veterans is an exciting class of freshmen that has already begun to generate buzz within the program. Albert Laursen, Corey Hairston, Carter Burgin, and Emory Butler each bring unique strengths to the lineup, creating healthy competition and depth across the roster. While transitioning to the collegiate level often presents challenges, their early commitment to improvement and willingness to learn has impressed the coaching staff. Worthen has emphasized development and consistency, and this group appears eager to embrace that standard.

The Magicians will be tested early and often with a demanding schedule that stretches across the South and Midwest. Their season begins in March in Columbia, Missouri at the Columbia College Cougar Classic, a tournament that will serve as an important benchmark for where the team stands. From there, LeMoyne-Owen travels to Knoxville, Tennessee for back to back competitions in the Island Pointe Invitational and the Pellissippi State Invitational. These events will challenge the team's endurance and focus as they navigate quick turnarounds and competitive fields.

April brings another opportunity for growth as the Magicians head to Dayton, Ohio for the Central State University Invitational. By this point in the season, Worthen hopes to see a more polished and confident group, one that has learned from early experiences and is beginning to find its identity. The season will culminate in Tunica, Mississippi at the SIAC Conference Championships, where the Magicians will look to showcase their progress and compete at a high level against conference opponents.

Throughout the preseason, Worthen has maintained a clear and consistent message centered on growth, accountability, and belief. He understands that success is not built overnight, but through daily commitment and a willingness to improve in every aspect of the game. His optimism is rooted not only in the talent on the roster, but also in the attitude of his players as they embrace the challenges ahead.

As the Magicians prepare to tee off, there is a quiet confidence surrounding the program. This season represents more than just a series of tournaments. It is the beginning of a new era defined by hard work, unity and the pursuit of excellence. If early signs are any indication, LeMoyne-Owen golf is poised to make meaningful strides with its sights set firmly on a strong finish and an even brighter future.
